[ARCHIVED] Kid's Government Day - April 25th

Join the Fun! Special day of kids activities to help them learn about local government.

Fun activities will be scheduled throughout the day in various locations including crafts, demonstrations & activities in the library, games and fire truck & K-9 demos at the park, lunch a Kids' led Mock Board Meeting, and office tours. All children are invited, but must be accompanied by an adult and have a liability waiver form (PDF) signed by parent or guardian

Schedule of Events

9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.            Library Event in the Children's Room with crafts, demonstrations, and activities for all ages. (1st Session)                          

10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.          Mariposa Park – Parks & Recreation will host games and activities. The Fire Department will host a fire truck demo and the Sheriff will bring their K-9 unit for a demonstration. Other offices will be on hand to talk with kids about all the ways the County works with youth. 

12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.            Lunch provided at Mariposa Park

1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.              Library Event in the Children's Room with crafts, demonstrations, and activities for all ages. (2nd Session)                                                  

2:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.             Government Center Lobby: Kid’s Choice Budget Event – Every child will receive  candy for use in a priority-based budgeting exercise. They will use the candy to place votes for a new pool, baseball field, playground, rec center, or other item. 

2:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.              Mock Board Meeting with the Clerk of the Board – The Clerk of the Board will guide Kid Supervisors through a mock board meeting where all County children can present ideas for making Mariposa County a great place for youth. The Auditor will present the Candy Budget. 

4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.              Open Hours for families to tour Health and Human Services, the Sheriff's Office and/or the CalFire Station at 5366 Hwy 49 N.
