Many of you are aware of the efforts of Mariposa County Fire’s (MCFD) PR/Community Education Committee (CEC). The committee’s primary existence is geared toward fire and home safety for residents within Mariposa County.
Many of you read the safety tips and articles published by our local media and posted to our county web site and web newspapers. You have participated in the Install, Inspect, Protect Smoke Alarm Campaign and your children have been a part of Fire Prevention Week, the reading program and have paid a visit to the Safety House. But, we need to reach further. The best way to do this is to combine efforts with the people living in the very communities we all call home.
At November’s Annual Heroes dinner hosted by the Mariposa County Chamber of Commerce, Chief Wilson presented the challenge to the community and the CEC to recruit 150 Fire Ambassadors.
What is a Fire Ambassador? As a representative of your local congregation, organization or club, MCFD will provide you with materials to share. You will be sharing seasonal fire safety information, home safety tips, safety tips for children and the elderly and other information that will undoubtedly help others and quite possibly save a life. By reaching out we will continue to increase the safety and education efforts of MCFD.
What is the requirement? As a Fire Ambassador, you will be the point of contact for your organization. Upon providing your contact information, you will be placed on a contact list with MCFD as a Fire Ambassador. Other than occasionally sharing information with your group, there is nothing extra to do.
What is the goal? Think about it. An ambassador shares a fire safety message with their local church. Then someone in the church takes that message to their local community club and so on, providing the opportunity to reach an endless number of people that are sharing valuable life-saving information with their family, friends and neighbors.
Make a difference, become a Fire Ambassador. Contact the county fire office at (209) 966-4330 or mpafire@mariposacounty.org to join in the efforts to keep our community safe!
