Details
The stair detail should show / describe, as a minimum, the following items:
- Headroom clearance: 6’8" minimum.
- Rise and run: 7 3/4" rise, maximum, 10" run, minimum, maximum variation in a flight of stairs in the rise or run is 3/8" for residential. Commercial use is a 7" rise and 11" run.
- Handrails: 30" to 34" measured from the nosing of the tread.
- Guardrails: 42" minimum height with an intermediate pattern such that a sphere 4" in diameter cannot pass through for residential. Commercial use: 42" min height.
- Decking, joists, stair treads, risers, runs, landings, etc. that are within 10' of the primary structure shall be built from fire resistive material.
