Why do the number 3 through 7 plastic containers have to be clean, and why can’t I recycle all plastic with the numbers 3 through 7 on it?
Our vendor will accept only food grade rigid plastic, that is, plastic used to make food containers such as yogurt and margarine tubs, beverage bottles and so on. They must be clean because they are often bundled and stored for long periods of time in warehouses. Food waste attracts mice, rats and other vectors. We have been unable to find a vendor who will accept film plastic such as plastic bags. (Plastic bags can be placed in recycling bins located at Pioneer Market and Rite-Aid.)
