First and foremost, I would like to commend those involved in Mariposa County’s EVS. Researching for and implementing a plan of action is extremely difficult, especially when trying to preserve and enhance such a beautiful land, community & way of life. I can appreciate where you’re coming from and where you’re trying to go.
I am unable to submit my comments in one post, so I will submit my comments in a series of posts. The focus of my comments center around the SWOT from Craft Consulting Group and Mariposa County’s relationship with CANNABIS.

Question:
Why is cannabis not addressed in the EVS?
This exclusion from the EVS should be addressed. If the Board of Supervisors is excluding cannabis from the EVS, the reasons for exclusion should be clearly stated in the SWOT Analysis Summary of the EVS. There are many applications of commercial cannabis and hemp that can be of economic value to our county. If the leaders of Mariposa County choose to exclude cannabis/hemp from the EVS, then it is helpful the leaders explain the reasoning behind their decision.
To create an economic vitality strategy for Mariposa County in 2017 without discussion of the commercial applications of cannabis seems lacking in the most fundamental ways.

Farmers Markets are a great way to showcase local agriculture. Mariposa County is "above the fog, below the snow." This unique climate is ideal for cultivating quality cannabis. We should allow local cultivators to share their products with the community. Cannabis infused honey, cooking oil, body lotions, soaps...there are many products unique to this region that we should capitalize on. Mariposa County can become an appellation of the cannabis industry with its wonderfully special climate!

Mariposa can promote specialized bike rides where tourists and locals can experience the town, depending on their interest and need. Bike Stations can be set up at different points of interest in town (North, Central and South parts of Town of Mariposa, for example) to encourage cross-promotion.

Mariposa County has an aging population with limited medical resources and services. It has been said that nearly 25% of the county is 65 years or older. It is immoral, and perhaps un-American, to force our vulnerable residents to cultivate their own medical cannabis, especially when health issues prevent them from doing so.
Whatever happened to the free market? Cultivating any type of crop is back-breaking labor. Shouldn’t retirees, veterans, and our elderly folk focus on enjoying life rather than working day and night to cultivate a quality harvest?
Why does the county persist in denying safe access for medical cannabis? Tell me where residents can go to obtain medical cannabis without driving for extended periods of time? When will Mariposa County learn the restrictions in place are hurting our residents more than helping?
