- SEIU, MCMCO, & SMA - Employees can earn up to a max of 360 hours of vacation and 1,500 hours of sick time
- DSA - Employees can earn up to a max of 360 hours of vacation and 1,200 hours of sick time
Vacation & SICK LEAVE
- SEIU*
- Sick accrues at a rate of 3 weeks per year (or 10 hours/month)
- Vacation accrues at the following rates:
- 0-2 years of service: 2 weeks annually (or 6.67 hours/month)
- 3-9 years of service: 3 weeks annually (or 10 hours/month)
- 10+ years of service: 4 weeks annually (or 13.33 hours/month)
- MCMCO*
- Sick accrues at a rate of 3 weeks per year (or 10 hours/month)
- Vacation accrues at the following rates:
- 0-3 years of service: 2 weeks annually (or 6.67 hours/month)
- 4-9 years of service: 3 weeks annually (or 10 hours/month)
- 10+ years of service: 4 weeks annually (or 13.33 hours/month)
- DSA & SMA*
- Sick accrues at a rate of 3 weeks per year (or 10 hours/month)
- Vacation accrues at the following rates (with the exception of the District Attorney Investigator, Deputy Probation Officers I/II/III, and Probation Corrections Officer positions under DSA that accrue vacation at the same rate as MCMCO):
- 0-3 years of service: 86 hours annually (or 7.17 hours/month)
- 4-9 years of service: 128 hours annually (or 10.67 hours/month)
- 10+ years of service: 171 hours annually (or 14.25 hours/month)
*Accruals are pro-rated for Permanent-Part time employees. Elected/Appointed Officials are exempt.
Administrative Leave
Per calendar year, 96 hours of paid administrative leave are available to overtime exempt management employees and Board approved Confidential employees represented by MCMCO; and 60 hours for overtime exempt employees represented by SMA.
other types of leave
- Family Medical Leave Act (or FMLA) - FMLA protects an employee's time and position/job for up to 12 weeks. Employees can qualify for FMLA leave after completing one year of service.
- California State Disability Insurance (or SDI) - SDI is available to all employees. Employees can access forms on the SDI website and work with their physician. SDI pays 55% of an employee's salary; employee's can use accruals to cover remainder of pay.
- Leave Bank Policy - The purpose of this policy is to provide a method for full-time and permanent part time employees to assist fellow full-time and permanent part time employees who have exhausted, or nearly exhausted, their paid leave accruals due to a serious illness or injury in their lives. It is not the intent of this policy for an employee to be enriched, but to aid only those employees who are truly in need of assistance. All employee leave donations will be confidential and all employee requests for leave donations will likewise be confidential. Leave determinations are non-grievable.
HOLIDAYS
The County recognizes 12 holidays, 1 floating/additional holiday, and 1 personal holiday**:
- Additional Holiday (AH) to be taken before or after any holiday in calendar year with prior approval of supervisor/department head
- Personal Holiday (PH) to be taken at any time during the calendar year with prior approval of department head. New employees are entitled to a personal holiday after their one-year anniversary.
